1. Court forces USA Powerlifting to allow males to compete against females
We are continuing to witness the erosion of women’s sport.
Worryingly, we are now starting to observe the trend of courts getting involved. This week, a district court in the state of Minnesota ruled in favour of JayCee Cooper (a biological male who identifies as female) against USA Powerlifting.
USA Powerlifting had in place a longstanding policy of sex-segregation. This was sensible. Powerlifting is a sport based solely on static strength. Anyone who has gone through male puberty will have significant advantage in terms of height, muscle mass, hand size, lung capacity, upper-body strength and bone density.
However, the court ruled that this was discriminatory to ‘trans’ people. As a result, USA Powerlifting must now allow biological males who identify as female to compete in female-only competitions.
The court’s ruling was filled with ideologically driven language (such as “gender assigned at birth”.) It even, confusingly, stated that “Cooper’s birth certificate identifies her as male”.
